Honor Code Example

Danielle Scott, Taken on July 2nd 2009

MY HONOR PLEDGE

As a student who uses different sources for my work, I pledge to always cite my work and always give credit to who I take information from.

I pledge to never cheat on any quizzes or tests and always make sure I turn in my own work.

I pledge to respect my peers and appreciate them for who they are at all times.

To me, plagiarism is when you take someone else’s work and act like it is yours.

To avoid plagiarism, make sure you cite your work at all times and never take anyone’s work.

I pledge to always be honest whenever and wherever I am.

Definition of Terms as used in this pledge:

Academic Dishonesty- any cheating that occurs in the relation to formal academic exerise. Cheating, stealing, lying for plagiariam.

Personal Dishonesty- lack of honesty. Cheating, stealing, lying for plaiarism.

Jayson Blair

Jayson Blair was a 27 year old year reporter, working for the New York Times. Blair lied and cheated his way through his job. He wrote articles with ideas and stories that were not his. He took credit for other people's stories as well. Jayson had to leave his job at the New York Times. I believe Jayson deserved having to quit his job. Plaigiarm is against the law and he should not be able to do that.

One of the articles I found, this is a quote I received from it: "Jayson Blair, a young Times reporter, lied and faked and cheated his way through story after story -- scores of them, for years. He fabricated sources, plagiarized material from other publications, and pretended to be places he never went. The problem, once fully investigated and made public by The Times itself, brought down not only the reporter but also The Times's executive editor and managing editor. For a while, it even made The Times a laughingstock in late-night comedy routines."

DataBases Reflection

9/25/13

My experience with these databases if that they are confusing. Unless you know the website by heart, it takes a while to get use to the website and find out what's it's about. At the start of class, I didn't really know much about databases. I just knew that there were websites for information. I never really used one except for today. Before today, I had no idea how to work with a database. And now I can work about a database a little bit more. Also before class, I didn't fully understand what a database was and now I completely understand what one is. Over all this day has been very helpful!

A Google A Day Search 9/13/13

I choose the third question: In the late 1800's ladies were given a red rose at a fashionable Louisville Derby party, resulting in the flower’s adoption as part of what race’s official logo? So when I was searching for the answer, I typed into red rose derby party in google images. I found that the symbol was at the Kentucky Derby. So I kept looking into it to make sure my answer was right by typing into google: Kentucky Derby Symbols. And I got that website above which confirmed my answer.
